43-year-old Senabarwane Police Sergeant arrested for an alleged R10 million life and funeral

Minister of South African police Senzo Mchunu has condemned the engaging of South African police service officers, in unlawful activities. This comes after a Senwabarwane Police sergeant linked to fraud and multiple murders gets arrested on Thursday 10 October 2024.
The 45-year-old sergeant is accused of allegedly orchestrating the murder of her six victims And defrauding life and funeral insurance policies an amount of R10 million In payouts every year since 2019.
According to the SAPS National spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, the arrest came after a two-months investigation since the approach, and the appointment of insurance and fraud expert, Captain Keshi Mabunda to lead the investigation.
With Evidence collected Mathe says they are confident of the matter being a strong case, “ We wrote to Captain Mabunda because of his expertise in solving similar cases, So he has been investigating the matter, he wrote to insurance companies, various banks, and so on, he collected all information, analyzed it, then we obtained a warrant of arrest, said Mathe.
Expressing her disappointment as the department, Mathe mentioned officers abusing the power to serve and protect as a “disgrace” , warning potential law-breaking officers on facing the law.
Sharing the same sentiments Minister of Police Mchunu expressed his concerns over the
public’s trust to South African Police Service. He condemned the “corruption”and “criminality” within the department, saying such acts committed by the members of SAPS will not be tolerated ” This arrest serves as a stark reminder that there is no place in the SAPS for officers who abuse their position of
authority for personal gain or engage in unlawful conduct. Such actions not only harm innocent lives but also erode the trust that the public places in law enforcement” said Mchunu.
The sergeant is expected to appear before the Polokwane district court on six counts of murder and about 17 cases of fraud on Friday.
