Leaders of the opposition political parties have come together to structure semblance strategic plans to unseat the ruling party, the African National Congress in next year’s general elections while shutting the Economic Freedom Fighters out.
This comes after seven political parties led by the Democratic Alliance held a two-day national convention meeting at the Emperors Place in Kempton Park in Johannesburg on the 16th of August 2023 to form the Multi-Party Charter of South Africa with an end goal to remove the ANC administration from power and “inaugurate” a new government.
The parties have agreed in governing with eight principles under the coalition government including transparency and accountability that has no tolerance of corruption, “we furthermore resolved to extend invitations to all political parties in South Africa to subscribe to our vision, priorities of government, shared governing principles and the pre-requisite to unseat the ANC and keep EFF out", said DA leader, John Steenhuisen.
Speaking at the central command team meeting on the 27 of August, EFF leader, Julius Malema said, “We're independent, we shall stand elections as an independent organization, we will win elections as an independent organization, we'll lose elections as an independent organization and accept the outcome with honor”, while further calling the coalition an illusion to the public.
Political Analysts express a concern of these political parties being capable enough to scoop enough votes on polls next year, with Sandile Swana saying a complete unseating of the ANC could happen in 2029 elections. The ANC has held a reputation of more than 50% votes from previous elections and only in 2021 municipal elections had the party received votes below that with a 46%.
The formerly known Moonshot pact consists of the DA, IFP, FF Plus, and newcomers such as ActionSA, ISANCO, UIM and SNP.
The parties' shared vision for post-elections have seem to promise the eradication of the ills the country has faced under the ANC government such as corruption, crime and drugs and cadre deployment while promising to deliver quality education and health care amongst other things.
