55-year-old man arrested for smuggling drugs.

A 55-year-old Tanzanian man is currently in police custody following his arrest in an attempt to smuggle tik in the Western Province on the 17th of July 2024.


The 55-year-old’s arrest ensued on the Garden Route District Crime Combatting Team and Flying Squad response to a tip off of a blue Lexus with the Gauteng registration plate transporting 979 grams of Methamphetamine (tik) of an estimated street value of R340 000.00.


Sergeant Christopher Spies says the suspect's arrest is in efforts with the combatting of  the “influx of illicit drugs” in the province.


The man’s vehicle was spotted entering George using the N2 highway. Eventuate, a search of the vehicle occurred after a lawful stop and the drugs were found concealed under the passenger seat.


The team deployed for the task seized the found drugs including the vehicle.


The suspect is expected to appear at the George Magistrate’s Court on Friday 19 July 2024.
